I was born and bred in Ireland, survived high school in New Jersey, USA, and studied English and History at University College, Cork, Ireland. My career debut in books was at the age of sixteen (as a shelver at the local library, but mostly secretly reading behind the stacks). I eventually became a fulltime bookseller, managing a bookshop in Ireland for many, many years while writing in my spare time. I now live in rural France with my family.
